Although artificial intelligence is useful for many things, it is limited in specific areas. In my digital revolution class we have been given various assignments where we could use AI to help prompt our responses if needed. However, over my time in class, I have come to realize that AI is not useful when prompted with future predictions. An example of an assignment for the class where AI wouldn’t be useful is analyzing digital campaigns for a future presidential election. This assignment could ask the class to not just analyze the digital components of the campaigns and advertisements, but to predict some digital tactics that may be used for the election. In addition, the assignment could also ask for the student’s personal opinions of the digital campaign.
When prompting ChatGPT with the following question, “Can you analyze digital campaigns for the 2024 election”, ChatGPT could not do so. This is because it cannot provide real-time information such as the prompted question because its training data only goes as far as January of 2022. When ChatGPT cannot give you an answer, it will provide suggestions or trends from previous years or experiences. In this instance, ChatGPT stated that it was able to discuss general trends or previous strategies and insight of digital campaigns from previous elections. Using AI for this assignment would also not be useful because it asks for the student’s personal take on the digital campaign. AI such as ChatGPT cannot form empathy or opinions because it does not have emotions and can only provide information based on previous data, publications etc. Overall, AI is a great tool to help you brainstorm ideas for a project or assignment, but it is important to note its limitations and to use it ethically.
